Belly on a Budget, Thoughts »
After a months of eating unhealthy food and drinking alcohol a few times a week, I decided it was time to eat well again. For the past week, I doubled my daily consumption of vegetables, replaced dark meat with white meat, added fish into my diet again, and reduced my salt intake. Since it only has been a week, I don’t see or feel any change yet. I’m going to stick on this plan for a month and see how it goes. Many of the dishes I have been cooking are …

I woke up around 4AM this morning for work. My colleagues overseas are working on a project and I’m just making sure everything is running on schedule. When I woke up, I was extremely hungry, more so than when I wake up at the usual time. Seeing that I’m working remotely and I do have a lot of time before I go into the office, I decided to make an omelet. I didn’t have much to work with in the fridge, so I just used onions, scallions, and spinach to …

With 5 grams of protein and a good dose of fiber in every 1/2 cup…oatmeal is a righteous power food on it’s own. But I don’t think I can eat more than a cup of cooked oatmeal as it’s filling, and I need more than10 grams of protein in the morning. I tried adding protein powder in the past, but I just didn’t like the grittiness of it. So I added one of those incredible, edible, eggs while the oatmeal was cooking. It didn’t affect the texture too much and …

Last month, I had the pleasure of experiencing Korean fried chicken for the first time at Bon Chon Chicken in Manhattan. For my second time, I went to Boom Boom Chicken in Fort Lee on Wednesday. I’ve been reading the reviews about this place and I heard the chicken is comparable to that of Bon Chon’s. It’s a small place and it’s design seems to be suited for take out. I ordered the wings and drumstick mix of regular and spicy. It took about twenty minutes for my order to …

Looks like I’ll be writing mobile posts until I get a replacement laptop.
There’s always one thing that nags me, and that’s public microwave etiquitte When it comes to using a microwave at a common area, certain manners have to be followed.
First of all, if you make a mess no matter how large or small inside the microwave, clean it up.
Second, before you open the microwave door to put in your food, make sure it is not in use.
And finally, never walk away from the microwave while your food is …

I haven’t been posting because my laptop started to act funny last week. Today it seemed to take its last breathe. While I did back up most of my files to an external hard drive…it looks like I won’t be able to recover a number of important files. I’ll see if I can repair it, but it’s not booting up beyond the BIOS and it looks like one of the colors on the LCD is burned out. Maybe it’s time for a Mac, I was never a …

I strive hard to include at least three servings of vegetables in my daily diet. And often, I fail to meet that goal. So last week, I started to do what most Chinese parents do, make healthy soup. I never really liked drinking soup when I was young. Most of the time when I go to visit my parents back in South Jersey, they would tell me there’s soup waiting for me. They would tell me how the soup would get rid of the hot air and cleanse the toxins …

Over the July 4th Weekend, I learned that kiwi is a great tenderizer for beef. It was the first time I had heard of this, but the kalbi (Korean beef short ribs) I had were out of this world, and the secret was using kiwi in the marinade. Kiwis contain an enzyme called actinidin, and what it does is that it breaks down the gelatin and muscle fibers in the beef.
Last night, I decided to do a little experimentation of my own. I would make two batches of beef bulgogi …

I have to admit, this beer bartender is cool, but I hope these things never make it to the bars in NYC. I much rather have an attractive female bartender serve me drinks and not a hunk of metal.
