New York Hot Dog and Coffee

Upon hearing about bulgogi hot dogs from a friend some months ago, I was skeptical of a modern mish-mash between East and West.  I am familiar with the concept of fusion, but this just sounded ridiculous.
In one corner, a Western classic that’s as American as baseball.  In the other corner, a traditional Korean dish that is passed down from generation to generation.  How did the idea of intertwining the two items come about?  Was it from a stroke of genius, or a thought from half-baked randomness?

My New Year’s resolution is to track my finances better and to stick to a budget. I’ve been saying that for the past 4 years, but this time around, I’ll be using Mint to help to stay the course. So it looks like my most frequented merchant for the past month has been Whole Foods. No surprise there.

On Saturday, I went to my friend’s place for a dinner party.  The food was excellent and I definitely had my fill.  When the desserts and coffee was served towards the end, I noticed there was half and half, and fat free half and half.  Something then dawned on me.  How can half and half be fat free?  Am I thinking too much into this?

In order to be classified as half and half, the milk product has to contain 10.5% -12.5% butterfat.  When I read the ingredients on the fat …

Every time I go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner, I scour through the entire menu.  By the time the server comes to take my order, I always end up ordering the Pasta Da Vinci.  It is by far my favorite dish at the restaurant and I rarely order anything else on the menu.  It even tastes great the next day when I take it home for leftovers.  The dish’s Madeira sauce is rich, tasty, and complex.  So tonight, I am attempting to recreate the dish in the comfort …

Well, the power is out. I guess this storm is no joke. I was in the middle of playing Gears of War 2, horde mode when everything suddenly went dark. I hope the power comes back on soon, I don’t want to throw out the food in the fridge and freezer. Looks like it’s a candles and book night.

It’s disappointing that we live in a time where we still have to be vigilant of what we put into our mouths.  More than ever, this is not the time to put your guard down.  Seriously, becareful of what you eat, it might just kill you, give you explosive diarrhea, or vomit until you dry heave.  Food recall news no longer come as a surprise and our faith in food safety regulation is waning, so will we ever regain our confidence in the food safety regulation industry?

Going out to eat this past week was more expensive than I had anticipated. After looking at my bank statement and my lack of cash, I realized that I should not have gone out to eat so many times, especially since that I’ve lost a good portion of my stock porfolio from the ailing economy. I normally don’t go out to eat too often, but the craving for certain kinds of food (Korean and Japanese)overcame my willpower of staying in to cook. In the past week, I managed to throw …

Last week, I ran out of cereal and eggs for breakfast.  I wasn’t about to go out to pick up fast food, or starve myself on the way to work, so I rummaged through my cabinets and found a pack of soba noodles.  At first, I wasn’t familiar with the notion of having noodles for breakfast, but I believe this is the norm in some Asian countries.  I’ve been eatng soba noodles for breakfast for the past week and I noticed that along with a cup of yogurt, it …

So when was the last time you cleaned your fridge?  When I say cleaned, I don’t mean wiping up spills that occur from time to time.  The last time I cleaned my fridge was, well…never.  That’s right, it’s been 11 months since I’ve moved into my apartment and I have yet to give it a thorough cleaning.  While my refridgerator is well organized, looks can be deceiving, but the smell isn’t.  I have a box of baking soda in the back corner of the unit that aids in odor absorption, and …

Having food allergies is a foodie’s worst nightmare.  During my first allergy test when I was very young, I tested positive for a peanut butter allergy. As I got older, my food allergy spreaded beyond peanut butter.  Today, I am also allergic to crab, lobster, certain types of spices, milk, and I think, iodine-rich foods.
For the past two weeks, I’ve had two minor hive breakouts almost within an hour of eating a certain dish. The first time was when I was dining out, so I had no idea what …
