I just came across this article about cold medicine being found in boxes of Smarties in southern Ontario. A young girl discovered a Dayquil pill inside a sealed box of Smarties. There are also 4 other cases of the same instance. The source of the medicine has not been found and the Smarties manufacturer have been questioned on the matter.
“Someone may have tampered with the actual package after production. They may have bought it at a store, taken it home and done this to it afterwards,” said Durham Regional Police spokesperson Dave Selby.
Somehow I doubt that the pills were placed into the boxes of candy during the manufacturing process. Everything is automated and there is very little human intervention. All my knowledge of candy manufacturing comes from watching “Unwrapped” on the Food Network.
