Hershey’s Not So Sweet Formula

21 September 2008 No Comment posted by Kin

Have your Milk Duds been tasting like, well, a dud lately?  If you notice the change, then you are not alone.  Hershey’s has reformulated their chocolate formula and has replaced the cocoa butter, which gives chocolate that smooth and creamy texture, with vegetable oil.  Due to this change, the products with the new formula can no longer be labeled as milk chocolate.  Instead, the products are labeled as chocolate candy, chocolate flavored, and chocolatey. Still, there is some good news, the solid milk chocolate products are still manufactured under the old formula.

The reason for the new formulation is to cut expenses by using less expensive ingredients, but at what cost?
