I’ve been eating sukoyaka genmai, an organic Japanese short-grain brown rice, for almost two years. My stock is getting rather low and I went to the Korean supermarket to purchase a new bag. With the rising cost of rice and other commodities, I expected the price to be a little higher than the usual $14.99 for a 15lb bag. What I didn’t expect was the radical increase in the price. At $21.99, I decided to forgo the purchase and moved on. I’m usually not bothered by the soaring food prices, but a 37% increase was enough to deter me away. With the amount of rice I have left, no grain will go to waste!
