This rice cooker used to be green.

I’ve been using a rice cooker that my mom handed down to me when I moved out of the house years ago. Sure, there are bigger and better rice cookers out there. Even though my rice cooker doesn’t have an induction heating system, uniform heating system, various rice cooking settings, stay cool handles, and play ring tones when the rice finishes cooking, it has a special place in my heart. The color is worn, the lid handle is partially melted, the electrical cord is flimsier than a piece of cooked spaghetti, and I have to turn the rice cooker a certain direction to make sure the power stays on, but that’s quite alright. I remember my mom washing the rice and placing it in the rice cooker when I was a little kid, and I think if I threw it away or replaced it with a new one, it would be like throwing away a part of my childhood. I’m sure it’s at least twenty years old.  It’s one of those things that you don’t want to let go of.
