Music helps me focus when I work out at the gym, especially with the Rocky IV soundtrack. It works just as well when I’m cooking to music playing in the background. While I don’t need something as intense as Rocky music to hype myself up when I cook, it helps set the rhythm to whatever I do in the kitchen. At first, I thought about placing a television in the kitchen, but I figured it would be too distracting, and that I might chop off a finger while I stare out the screen. Last month I cooked a week straight with Jay-Z and Lupe Fiasco tracks playing in the background. This week, I’ve been cooking to Jay Chou’s 2007 concert album. One time I cooked with ‘The Last Samurai” soundtrack playing. The tranquility and calm of the music actually made me prepare and cook my food slower.
