I had lunch with my parents yesterday at a recently opened Penang Malaysian restaurant in Maple Shade, New Jersey. I’ve been to a few other ones in the past, so I didn’t expect much of the place. When I went in, I was tempted to go back outside to check out the sign to make sure we were at Penang. The interior design was not reminiscent of the shoddy wooden tables and the bamboo-laden decor that plagued the other Penangs. In fact, a human-sized Buddha statue overlooked the water fountain in the middle of the room. What also caught my immediate attention was the high ceiling and the large sky window at the center that permitted a fair amount of sunlight into the building,
I did my best to capture pictures with my camera phone. The natural sunlight that shone in helped a lot. The pics actually came out pretty decent.

The fountain in the center of the restaurant was quite unexpected

Yes, sit down, and stay a while.

Hainanese Chicken - A classic staple I get every time I go to a Malaysian restaurant

Seasonal Kang Kong Greens - This was my favorite dish there

Jumbo Shrimp - A little messy, I needed extra napkins
All in all, the food was decent. I was more impressed with the decor than anything else.
