I attended a banquet at work the other day knowing well in advance that food would be provided. I had a light lunch that day because I planned to eat a good amount at the banquet. When I got there, the first thing I saw was the food and the drinks table. As I looked around to scope out the people in the room, I noticed a lot of senior members of the firm were there. This made me think about proper free-feeding behavior. I wasn’t going to go around the table and pile on gobs of food on a small plate, and I would go for seconds, never thirds. I didn’t want them to see me as some free-loader, after all, I have worked with a few of them in the past. Unfortunately, image plays a big part in everything we do. This office boy is going to make it up there someday!
